Ticket Prices: Algerian Travelers Doubly Penalized

While many Algerians in France hope to book their trip and spend Ramadan and the upcoming holidays in Algeria, ticket prices have never been so high.

Since the reopening of borders last June, fares have reached record levels, especially from France. The high cost of tickets is explained by a limited number of flights, dropping from 300 weekly connections before the pandemic to only about fifty currently.

For example, currently and until the end of August, Air France offers Paris/Algiers one-way tickets starting at €679. An exorbitant price that few travelers can afford.

France – Algeria: Airfare Prices Set to Rise

In addition to the situation caused by the partial closure of Algerian borders, another threat has emerged.

In France, for the past few weeks, another essential part of daily life has become very expensive: filling up on gasoline, which also affects planes. Oil prices have doubled since last November, and airlines are starting to worry because this could impact ticket prices.

A statement from the French Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, cited by Le Parisien, goes in this direction: “All global airlines are affected by the rise in kerosene. They will all pass it on. We can expect a rise in ticket prices.”

Le Parisien adds that the Air France-KLM group has just increased all its long-haul fares. The company does not hide it: “The amount of the increase varies depending on the destination and the travel class.” Questions are justified: medium-haul and short-haul flights may also, in the long term, be affected if the cost of filling a plane’s tank continues to rise.

More than ever, the prospect of coming to Algeria for the holidays seems increasingly complicated as obstacles multiply.
